Project: London Brasserie Installation

Location: Mayfair, London W1

Scope: 100+ Artworks across two floors, restaurant, members bar and staircase.

Services: High-volume curation, technical artwork installation, security fixing, Scaffold tower.

When a world-class brasserie opens its doors in Mayfair, every detail must be flawless, from the menu to the artwork on the walls. Recently, Gilbert Art Services was commissioned to take on a high end project requiring a professional picture hanging service for a premier dining destination in London.

This wasn’t an ordinary install; it was a complex job requiring technical know-how, specialist access equipment, and the artwork installation of valuable, contemporary art.

The Collection of Dreams

It is always a pleasure to work with great artwork, it's what makes us tick and this project was no exception. The curation for this space was ambitious, featuring large works by Peter Doig and Denzil Forrester. Each piece required a bespoke picture hanging service solution, utilising heavy-duty security fixings, french cleats and L brackets to ensure the art remains perfectly level and entirely secure in a high-traffic public environment.

Navigating The Staircase

The architectural layout of the brasserie presented a unique challenge: a grand, double-height stairwell that served as the beating heart of the restaurant.

To transform this vertical space, our team erected a specialist scaffolding tower for stairs. Working at height over a staircase requires an understanding of weight distribution and safety protocols. Our technicians manoeuvred these heavy artworks into position with millimetre precision, proving why a professional picture hanging expert is essential for luxury commercial interiors such as London restaurants.

Artwork installed over a staircase has an incredible visual impact.

Working Around the Clock: The Commercial Reality

Our team is accustomed to the discreet nature of commercial service. We arrived as the doors closed, transformed the space overnight, and ensured that by the time the first coffee was served the following morning, the scaffolding was gone, the dust was cleared, and a stunning collection of 100+ artworks looked as though it had always been there.

The Art of the Gallery Wall

Beyond the technical heights of the stairwell, we curated extensive gallery walls throughout the main dining rooms. A high-end artwork installation of this scale requires an aesthetic eye, balancing different frame styles, mediums, and sizes to create a cohesive narrative. Using laser-levelling and a refined sense of spacing, we ensured that the last frame was as perfectly aligned as the first, creating a salon hang to rival any restaurant in the Mayfair area.

Why Commercial Spaces Require a Specialist Picture Hanging Service

A restaurant is a living, breathing environment. Vibrations from footfall, humidity changes, and public safety requirements mean that standard domestic hanging methods simply won't cut it.

At Gilbert Art Services, we specialize in these high-pressure commercial environments. We bring:

  • Professional Picture Hanging Expertise: Technical knowledge with global standards.

  • Complex Access Knowledge: From towers to bespoke scaffolding.

  • Security Focus: Anti-theft hardware that keeps high-value art safe.

  • Efficiency at Scale: Managing 100+ pieces without sacrificing quality.

Whether you are launching a Mayfair landmark or refreshing a boutique hotel in Shoreditch, your art deserves an installation that matches its calibre.
