The Art of the Townhouse Installation: A Holland Park Installation with Alice Crawley Interiors
Client: Alice Crawley Interiors
Project Type: Artwork Installation
Spaces: Entrance, reception rooms, hallways.
Completion: February 2026
In the expansive, light-filled spaces of a Holland Park townhouse, the final layer of interior design is where a house truly becomes a home. Gilbert Art Services (GAS) recently had the pleasure of returning to West London with Alice Crawley Interiors to execute a sophisticated, multi-medium art and mirror installation across five floors of this stunning property.
A Diverse Curatorial Challenge
Every room in this Holland Park residence presents a different narrative. Working from Alice Crawley’s precise design layouts, our task was to install a vast and varied collection that spanned centuries and styles.
The project required more than just picture hanging; it required an understanding of how different materials interact with the architectural fabric of a historic London home.
Highlight: The Installation of a Large-Scale Tapestry
One of the focal points of the project was a significant contemporary tapestry intended for the living room. Installing textiles of this size requires a specialised approach:
Weight Distribution: We utilised custom-made, conservation-grade hanging brackets to ensure the weight of the tapestry was distributed evenly, preventing any pulling or tearing of the fibers over time.
Sightline Precision: Positioning a large textile requires an eye for symmetry and we ensured the piece was perfectly centered to complement the architectural molding and furniture.
From Contemporary Canvases to Heritage Mirrors
Beyond the tapestry, the project involved a comprehensive range of installation types:
Contemporary Gallery Walls: In the informal living areas, we curated tight-knit groupings of modern photography and sketches, ensuring our picture hanging service provided perfect spacing and alignment.
Modern Mirrors: We secured several heavy, colourful mirrors above original marble fireplaces. This required specialist structural fixings to ensure long-term safety in period plasterwork.
Bespoke Lighting Integration: Coordinating with the interior team, we placed artworks to sit perfectly beneath dedicated picture lighting, enhancing the texture of the oils and the clarity of the UV glass-protected prints.
The Value of Professional Art Handling in Holland Park
High-end interiors, particularly those designed by designers like Alice Crawley, demand a ‘can do’ mentality. Our technicians provide:
Conservation Awareness: Handling delicate frames and fragile textiles with nitrile gloves and the care they deserve.
Structural Security: Using the correct hardware for London’s unique mix of lath-and-plaster and modern dry-lining.
Collaborative Spirit: Working seamlessly alongside interior designers, carpet fitters, and furniture installers to ensure the project meets the move-in deadline.
